The University Student: Virginia Raffaeli, Durham University
"As a final year Law student I chose to study Arabic as an opportunity to develop a new skill and to try something different. The opportunity given to me through Durham University to expand my knowledge of the language, through the Chatterbox system, has allowed me to strengthen my communication skills and to learn new vocabulary in a stimulating context.
I have also particularly enjoyed the willingness to help and teach new things without the pressure and awkwardness that may arise in a classroom when you make a mistake.
Finally, as someone who is going to do a Masters in Humanitarian Law next year I found talking to the two Syrian refugees who tutor me extremely interesting, and being able to become more confident communicating in Arabic while engaging in stimulating conversation has been amazing.”
